Nô Pintcha Newspaper partners with National Public Library to digitalise all its editions since 1975

On September 17, with the support of UNDP, the National Library of INEP and the Nô Pintcha Journal signed a cooperation agreement for the digitization of the newspaper's archives since 1975, which will safeguard 46 years of history of Guinea-Bissau contained in the pages of the oldest weekly newspaper in the country. Tjark Egenhoff, UNDP Resident Representative, avered to the importance of this partnership to safeguard the national memory and strengthen the media, in order to consolidate peace in Guinea- Bissau, reiterating UNDP's will to continue supporting the Government in this work. The Minister of National Education and Higher Education, Cirilo Djaló, said that it is essential to “ensure the implementation of a sustainable policy of conservation and preservation of documentary heritage” to “ensure that future generations have access to their history and the legacy of their ancestors.”

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Social Communication, Fernando Mendonça, who described this partnership as “a shared victory”.

Since 2020, with the support of volunteers, the entire collection of INEP's National Public Library is being digitalized. This initiative will not only preserve the original documents but also make them accessible online so that they can be referenced anywhere in the world.

Preserving Guinea-Bissau's collective memory and documentary heritage is fundamental to promoting sustainable peace and stability in the country. An initiative supported by UNDP through the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
