UNDP supported  the financial intelligence unit of Guinea-Bissau, CENTIF,
with 6 desktop computers and 6 laptops to strengthen cooperation with other foreign services in the subregion, on money laundering, terrorism financing, corruption etc.  This is a component of the PARGEF Project (Capacity building for economic and finance management project) implemented by UNDP and funded by The African Development Bank (AfDB).

All financial institutions in the country have the obligation to inform CENTIF of suspicious financial activities, a mandate which derives from Decree no. 1/2006, which created the institution among others.

CENTIF undertakes core anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing (AML/CTF) functions and reports directly to the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The Unit is responsible for combating money-laundering , financing of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Within the PARGEF Project, UNDP will also support digitalization of CENTIF as well as organise training sessions for judges and magistrates on money laundering and corruption.
