A hybrid event on creative industries organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Camões, Institute for Cooperation and Language, took place in the city of Bissau on December 8th and 9th.  During the event, issues such as the role of the creative industries in the sustainable transformation and economic growth of the country or the mechanisms to be developed to promote the financing of the sector were discussed.

In this International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, developing countries had the opportunity to place at the center of the debate the commitment to creative industries as a new area of sustainable growth, to support the diversification of their products and exports.  The days, held within the framework of the implementation of UNDP's financial inclusion and entrepreneurship support projects in Guinea-Bissau, aimed to offer a space for joint reflection on the best strategies to introduce the cultural sector on the country's economic and social growth map.  The creative industries have great potential and an essential role in economic diversification and promotion of employment and empowerment of women and young people, as well as in improving the private sector's ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation in the country.

Well-known names in the arts of Guinea-Bissau, such as musicians Eneida Marta and Zé Manel, and painters Ismael and Lemos Djata, were part of the eve that combined both musical performances and artistic interventions with roundtable debates on the main issues affecting the sector.
