A sensitization campaign to strengthen the technical and functional competencies of the Court of Auditors, Parliament, and Civil Society in the field of public financial management kicked off on 6 May 2021, in the northern region of Guinea-Bissau, in the city of Canchungo.

The campaign, which was launched in the presence of the President of the Guinea-Bissau Court of Auditors, Dr. Dionísio Cabi who also chaired the opening session, was focused on raising awareness on the role and the importance of external control of public accounts, with the specific objective to inform about the main activities of the Court of Auditors and its importance for the balance of the country's Public Finance Management System. Many authorities in the jurisdiction, namely Governors, administrators, and Directors of public services were present as well as members of the community..

The activity is implemented in the framework of the joint project funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, to promote economic governance in Portuguese Speaking Countries, of which Guinea-Bissau is a part.

Strengthening the technical and functional competencies of the Supreme Audit Institutions, Parliaments, and Civil Society in the field of public financial management is important for developing skills, know-how, and knowledge of oversight stakeholders. In this regard, the project seeks to broker initiatives for capacity development, south-south, and triangular cooperation, exchanges of experiences, and "peer2peer" learning, with the expectation to foster institutional-based, process-based and human resources-based change and transformational dynamics.

From 9 to 12 May, the delegates of the Court of Auditors continued their sensitization campaigns in the Eastern region of the country, in the city of Gabú, and from 14 to 16 May in the Southern part of the country, in the city of Buba. The campaign will conclude in Bissau, from 19 to 21 May, and will be attended by the public and authorities of the Biombo region.
