Mapping community and religious leaders in Guinea-Bissau to promote inclusive political dialogue

September 8, 2021

Aware of the fundamental role of traditional authorities in Guinea-Bissau and considering the importance of involving all key actors, namely non-formal leaders, in political dialogues, UNDP and UNFPA carried out a mapping of traditional and religious authorities and community leaders in the country.

122 community, traditional and religious leaders were identified in a total of 8 missions carried out in all regions of Guinea-Bissau. The objective was to get to know these actors, usually excluded from political processes, and define a strategy for their involvement and participation, thus promoting an inclusive political dialogue.

The mapping was conducted in the framework of the project "Political Stabilization and Reform through Confidence Building and Inclusive Dialogue" funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund.
