“Basic concepts of the political and international economy – understanding for better reporting” was the theme of the 6th open class for journalists organized by the Media Consortium in Guinea-Bissau (CMICS), which took place on September 29th.

The class was taught by Santos Fernandes, a public employee from the Ministry of Finance and a douane in Economics and Public Policies, and Diamantino Domingos Lopes, journalist, sociologist, and Secretary-General of SINDJOTECS– Journalists Bar.

On every last Wednesday of the month, open classes for journalists take place at CMICS, in Quelele. These classes are then broadcasted on 16 community radios, ensuring that they reach journalists across Guinea-Bissau. The next open class will take place at the end of October on the theme “The role of media in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in Guinea-Bissau”.

Training is essential for media to perform their duties, considering they have a key role in promoting access to quality information.

This is a CMICS-GB initiative with the support of UNDP Guinea-Bissau and funding from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
