A field visit with the main implementing partners (IBAP, Coastal Planning Office, and Rural Engineering) to assess the situation on the ground and related changes at the local level was organized under the auspices of the project “Strengthening the adaptation and resilience capacity of vulnerable communities living in coastal areas in Guinea-Bissau”.

During the meetings with the beneficiaries in the field, including local and traditional authorities, associations of horticultors, fisherfolks, and farmers as well as other actors involved in coastal areas, the parties discussed economic activities of women and youth, the ecological and environmental importance of women in the protected/reserved areas, challenges of climate change and local adaptation measures.

The project funded by UNDP and GEF and executed by the General Direction of Environment will give specific attention to institutional development and policies for climate risk management in coastal areas,  investment in coastal protection, and sharing of technology for strengthening the resilience of coastal communities to climate change.
