From the 29th of September to the 2nd of October, at Casa dos Direitos, in Bissau, a workshop on women's rights promoted by AMIC, with the support of UNDP, took place. The aim of the training was to empower different actors, including local, national, and non-state authorities, on the topic of women and girls’ rights.

In the first phase, the defense and security forces and the media were trained. In this second phase, the training was aimed at Civil Society Organizations and will be replicated until October 17th in different regions of Guinea-Bissau, namely Biombo, Cacheu, and São Domingos.

“This training is an opportunity to stand up against the violations of women and girls’ rights that have occurred in Guinea-Bissau, and a way to reverse this negative trend that we have witnessed in the country. Gender equality and women's rights are essential for the promotion of peace, democracy, and development”, says Bubacar Turé, Vice-President of the Guinean Human Rights League.

“AMIC and its partners at Casa dos Direitos have been following the human rights situation, particularly for women and girls in our country. The violation of women's rights is, unfortunately, a reality that crosses our country”, says Laudolino Mendonça, Executive Secretary of AMIC. “Our commitment, through this initiative, is to contribute to the improvement of dialogue and cooperation between the different actors, galvanizing them towards the defense of the rights of women and girls in Guinea-Bissau.”
