Training sessions for technicians and media professionals from different media outlets in Guinea-Bissau were held from May 20th- May 21st, 2021, supported by UNDP under the Project “Placing Women at the Center of Justice Reform”, financed through the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund. The objective of the trainings was to ensure that the rights of women and gender equality are guaranteed in the context of the ongoing justice reform in the country.

About 30 participants from different media houses and organizations were represented. The trainings focused on the role the media can play in achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls, through inclusive, non-discriminatory measures and coverages that eliminates gender stereotypes, while highlighting information about the situation and problems faced by women and girls in Guinea-Bissau.

The Director General of Justice Policy at the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Degol Mendes, in his remarks noted that the imbalance in human rights between men and women have their roots in structures of power that must be considered in the legal system geared towards improving rule of law in the country.

The initiative carried out in partnership with Associação dos Amigos da Criança (Association of the Children's Friends) AMIC and the Ministry of Justice, with the support of Casa dos Direitos (House of Rights), were held in the context of Sustainable Development Goal Nº 16, “Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development , provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions ”, and Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls.
