UNDP supports capacity building of newly elected parliamentarians

September 22, 2020

The National Assembly plays a critical role in the promotion of good governance and has the major constitutional mandate in relation with law making, control and representation.

As part of this, UNDP was honored to support the newly elected parliamentarian through a three days capacity building session organized with the Peace Building Fund Financial Support from 5 to 7 August.

The new parliamentarian participated to an introductory session on the Parliament with an emphasis on the criteria, role, function and responsibility of a democratically elected Parliament, its mandate and the relationship between the Parliament and the other state organs.

UNDP has been supporting the Parliament for years on the elaboration of its strategic plan, on the partnership with the specialized committees and the training and capacitation of its high officials on several thematic areas.

The Parliament is a space for national debate and discussion as well as for policy elaboration allowing this, citizens to express their opinions and concerns and demand accountability. For this, the three days of capacity building aim to provide tools that will allow compliance with these control and policy making functions of the parliamentarians.
