UNDP has been supporting national efforts to enhance social cohesion and peace, strengthening institutional capacity and citizens’ trust in the State’s commitment to work for national reconciliation and stabilization and has been contributing to the improvement of justice service, the management of electoral organs and the preparation and organization of local, legislative and presidential elections
UNDP focuses in ensuring environmental sustainability through an improved natural resources management, strengthened resilience capacity to climate change, access to low carbon renewable energy, climate change strategies, biodiversity conservation, economic evaluation of environment benefits and plan and systems of risk reduction and disaster.
Sustainable Economic Growth
UNDP supports local economic development in 3 pilot regions – Gabu, Cacheu and Quinara – aiming at effectively reducing poverty in those regions through localization of SDGs, improvement of food security and promotion of local economic development with the social contract at the heart of our efforts. UNDP’s valuable contributions as United Nations integrator organization and principal partner of Guinea-Bissau focuses mainly on technical capacity building of the public administration and civil society organization’s staff on administration and Result Based Management (RBM).
Health and Social Protection
UNDP supports the Government of Guinea-Bissau to tackle complex challenges such as continuing burden of HIV and other infectious diseases, and emerging challenges such as non-communicable diseases as well as COVID-19. Universal health coverage will be integral to achieving SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), ending poverty and reducing inequalities. Multi-sectoral, rights-based and inclusive approaches are essential to address inequalities and achieve good health for all.
